Pharma Manufacturing Outsourcing Partnerships 2010
Event Overview
Large pharmaceutical companies, as well as smaller biotechs clearly face increasing pressure to deliver molecules to R&D labs as well as the mass market under tight deadlines. Whilst outsourcing may be the only option for “virtual” small biotechs, outsourcing is becoming increasingly important for big pharma too who are looking to become leaner, lower-cost, faster and more efficient. However, managing, monitoring and motivating third-party vendors creates a whole lot of issues and hurdles, especially in terms of agreeing to contracts, standard operating procedures and standards, joint project management, clear communication, minimizing risk and ensuring high-quality. This event will look at the principal issues and challenges that pharma and biotech companies face when outsourcing production to contract manufacturers, especially complex and difficult to develop or toxic small molecules, biologics and vaccines. The event will cover all areas of scale-up, from smaller R&D supply batches to full-scale mass manufacturing.
These include:
- Challenges in upscaling difficult to manufacture small & large molecule drugs and vaccines.
- Working with external partners in volatile product types (i.e. biologics and high-potent or complex chemicals).
- Finding, selecting, and contracting with the most suitable CMOs & Suppliers.
- Performance management of external partners.
- Developing an outsourcing strategy.
- Contract negotiation & management.
- Uncertainties in legal frameworks including IP issues.
- Risk minimization and risk managing your outsourcing strategy.
- Ensuring high quality and regulatory compliance via third parties.
- Utilising offshore partners in China & India: Success stories and cautionary tales.
